Eighteen holes separate the Washington boys’ golf team from a trip to the state tournament. The Demons square off against golf teams from West Delaware, Vinton-Shellsburg, Central Clinton, and Mount Vernon in the Decorah District meet at the Amana Colonies Golf Course.

Washington qualified for today’s event by shooting 345 as a team last Thursday at the Flint Hills Golf Course in Burlington, out-dueling the Clear Creek Amana Clippers and the Solon Spartans for the final spot in the district tournament.

The Demons didn’t place an individual golfer in the top five at the sectional tournament. Sophomore Noah Enfield had the Demons’ lowest score last Thursday, shooting a 13 over 84 for the tournament and ended the day tied for ninth place. Fellow sophomore Tanner Coleman finished his day one shot behind Enfield, tying for 10th place in the tournament.

Entering play today, junior Derek Anding holds the Demons’ lowest average 18 hole score of 80. Freshman Dalton Myers posts the second lowest average, completing a full round of golf in 83.5 strokes.

To qualify for the state tournament, the Demons need to finish among the top two teams or a golfer needs to finish in the top four individually.

Today’s Decorah District meet tees off at 9:30 a.m. at the Amana Colonies Golf Course.
