Getting a chance to right an early season wrong, the Washington Demon girls’ soccer team (3-10 overall) closed their home schedule on a good note. The Demons welcomed the Columbus Wildcats (3-9) for a non-conference tilt at Washington High School. Washington evened the season series with a 3-1 victory.

The Demons, who lost 3-2 in overtime against Columbus on April 7, broke their scoreless streak 13 minutes into the match for an early 1-0 victory. Senior Kayla Schindler added to the lead 25 minutes into the match, and at intermission Washington enjoyed a 2-0 lead. Three of Schindler’s five goals this season have come against Columbus. The two teams played an even second half, each scoring a goal to bring the final score to 3-1. Junior Kristen Barber scored the Demons’ final goal, her third of the spring.

The win stops Washington’s current losing streak at four games, improving their overall record to 3-10. Washington’s last three games of the season will be on the road, starting Monday against the Muscatine Muskies (6-2).
