A beautiful night in Southeast Iowa turned into a productive night for the Washington Demon girls’ track team. The Demons competed against 14 other girls track teams in the annual Ekstrand Relays held by WACO High School, and Washington finished the meet as the second best overall team with 134 points.

Senior Macy Marek put together another stellar evening of events, placing first in three separate events. She took top placing in the 100 meter dash with at time of 12.98 seconds and her 200 meter dash time of 26.75 was the fastest in the meet. The 800 sprint medley team of Macy Marek, her sister Makenzi Marek, Makenna Rich, and Morgan Kimball had the best performance Thursday, clocking a time of 1:55.28.

The final first place finish of the evening came from junior McKayla Miller, who hurled the shot 33 feet 4.5 inches to take top billing in the event.

The Demon girls’ track team finished 42 team points behind Mount Pleasant, who took the Ekstrand’s team title. They returns to competition on Monday, taking part in the Fairfield Invitational .
