The best girls’ golfers in the Southeast Conference meet today in Keokuk to compete for the league championship. The Washington Demons are set to compete at the Lake Cooper Golf Course this morning against conference opponents Fairfield, Fort Madison, Keokuk, and Mount Pleasant.

Washington girls’ golf coach Len Kull expects the meet to be a shootout between his girls, Fairfield, and Mount Pleasant, “There’s a lot of good players in our conference and the coaches are working well with them.” Kull said, “We are certainly pleased with our progress and I know the coaches for Mount Pleasant and Fairfield are pleased with their teams as well.”

The three schools combine to have four of the five top golfers in Class 4A in 18 hole average heading into today’s conference meet. Washington freshman Sarah Nacos has the best 18 hole average in Class 4A, finishing full rounds at a median rate of 72.5 strokes. Teammate Denna Peiffer sits directly behind Nacos in the Class 4A rankings, recording an average of 77 strokes per 18 holes of golf.
