The first day of the Iowa Girls and Boys State Track and Field meet saw the Washington Demon track teams advance two events to tomorrow’s final day.

Washington senior Macy Marek will compete on the final day of the state track meet in the Class 3A 100 meter dash, clocking a preliminary time of 12.71 seconds. Her time was the second fastest in her heat and was the third best performance overall. Marek also battled in the preliminaries of the 200 meter dash, finishing in 11th place with a time of 26.2 seconds.

Joining Marek in Saturday’s finale is the boys’ shuttle hurdle team. The quartet of Jacob Hennigan, Alex Gonzalez, Caleb Bex, and Gage Redlinger crossed the finish line in 59.69 seconds, placing fifth in the preliminary round.

Friday’s events at the blue oval will belong to the boys’ track squad. The Demons open the morning with Jacob Hennigan competing in the 110 meter hurdles at 9:40 a.m. The Demons’ 4×200 meter relay team takes to the track at 10:20 a.m. The group includes Ethan Hansen, Bryce Rickey, Kyle Schindler, and Redlinger. Finally, Tommy Peterson wraps up his high school athletic career, competing in the shot put final at 11:40 a.m.
