Washington’s Kayla Schindler winds up  for a penalty kick on Monday against Fort Madison. The Demons have been kept off the scoreboard during the last three games with Schindler scoring the team’s last goal on April 30.

Offensive struggles aren’t a new thing for the Washington Demon girls’ soccer team (2-9 overall;1-5 Southeast), but a recent cold stretch to start the month of May has magnified the situation. Three games into the month and the Demons haven’t put the ball in the net once, a 240 minute scoreless streak to start the fifth month of 2015.The Demons’ last goal came off the foot of Kayla Schindler on April 30th, securing a 3-2 overtime victory against Mediapolis.

The offensive struggles are the most noticeable inside league play. In their six conference games this spring, Washington has been outscored 26-2 and has been shut out in five of their six matches. Their lone win in conference came on April 23rd in Fort Madison, Washington scored a goal in each half for a 2-1 triumph over the Bloodhounds.

The Demons will try to erase their recent offensive woes this afternoon in Mount Pleasant against the Panthers (5-5 overall; 3-4 Southeast). Mount Pleasant took game one between the schools 3-0, and shared the scoring between Shila Hiler, Hattie Liechty, and Lauren Ralls in the victory.

Kickoff of today’s Southeast Conference girls’ soccer clash is set for 4:30 p.m. from East Lake Park in Mount Pleasant.
