The postseason run for the Demon boys’ soccer team (3-10 overall; 0-8 Southeast) begins at the friendly confides of Washington High School against a familiar adversary. The Demons have been paired with the Fort Madison Bloodhounds in the first round of the sub state tournament. Fort Madison elected to have the postseason clash at Washington High School.

The Bloodhounds swept the season series between the clubs, outscoring the Demons 12-3 in the pair of matches. Fort Madison junior Braxton Williams recorded seven of the 12 goals scored against Washington this spring. Williams has scored a team leading 35 goals, second most in the Southeast Conference and second in the state.

Washington’s offense has been more spread out. Freshman Andres Gutierrez leads the Demons with six goals, while seniors Khaven Wagenknecht and Joe Smith have posted five goals a piece. Nine total players have scored a goal for Washington with seven players scoring multiple goals. Freshman Thomas Zimmer’s 129 saves so far this spring is tops in the Southeast Conference, and a save percentage of 80 percent.

Today’s subdistrict soccer game kicks off at 5 p.m. at Washington High School. Listen to tomorrow’s KCII’s sports page for results from the clash.
