The growing season is underway in southeast Iowa. According to this week’s USDA Crop Progress & Condition Report, over 90% of corn is planted and 80% has emerged, while around 70% of this year’s soybean acreage is planted and 30% of the crop has emerged. According to Washington County farmer, Jim Cuddeback, diseases and pests, such as cutworm, have not been an issue yet. He says the corn and beans look good, but they have a long way to go before they put the grain in the bin.
