Highland’s Jessie Wollrab advances the ball in the April 30th clash with the Columbus Wildcats. Wollrab scored two goals to help Highland to a 6-3 victory, their first over Columbus in boys’ soccer.

Nearly two weeks removed from the program’s first victory over the Columbus Wildcats (5-5 overall; 2-1 SEISC North), the Highland Huskies boys’ soccer team (6-4 overall; 4-1 SEISC North) is going for the season sweep of their Southeast Iowa Super Conference foe.

A balanced scoring effort helped the Huskies to a 6-3 triumph over the Wildcats at Columbus High School on April 30, Highland’s first victory over Columbus in the program’s nine years of existence. Highland collected two goals from Jessie Wollrab and Giovanny Aguliar, while Bryan Garcia and Kory Schnoebelen connected on a single goal each in the victory.

The Huskies followed up their game against Columbus with a shutout loss against the Danville Bears, 6-0 last Thursday at Highland High School. It was the first shutout loss of the season for Highland.

The Wildcats are coming off arguably their best overall performance of the season last Monday against the Iowa Mennonite School (4-5 overall). Columbus’s Ruben Paz, Eric Cantarero, and Kevin Rodriguez each scored a goal, while keeper Carter Colby posted seven saves in a 3-0 victory over IMS. It was the first shutout win for the Wildcats this season, evening Columbus’s overall record at 5-5.

Garcia leads the SEISC North with 19 goals this season, while Columbus’s Paz is second in the conference in goals scored with 14.

Today’s Southeast Iowa Super Conference North clash kicks off at 5 p.m. at Highland High School.
