Only four athletes beat Highland sophomore sprinter Kelsey Hora in a foot race at the regional track and field meet. Hora will represent the Huskies in four of their six qualified events at this week’s Iowa Girls and Boys State Track and Field Meet, including as a member of the 4×400 meter relay team and individually in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes.

Hora anchored the Huskies regional champion 4×400 meter relay team of senior Sam Dutton, senior Chelsey Lampe, and freshman Murphey Beinhart. The crew clocked a time of 4:20.6, the ninth best time among the state’s Class 1A 24 team field.

Hora’s 100 meter dash time of 13.38 was the fourth best in the region 10 field, but the 18th fastest time across the state. Her second place performance in the 200 meter dash was recorded at 27.62, qualifying Hora as the 16th best time in Class 1A. Finally, Hora won the district champion in the 400 meter dash, posting a time of 1:02.11. Her quarter mile run was the ten finest in Iowa.

Lampe and Dutton round out the Huskies’ state qualifiers. Lampe made the 24 person cut in the 800 meter run after placing second in the Region 10 race, clocking a time of 2:30.69. The time is the 18th best in Class 1A. Dutton has qualified for Iowa’s top meet in the high jump competition, leaping 5 feet even in the regional meet. It was the 12th best jump across the Class 1A field.

The first event for the Highland Huskies girls’ track team begins Thursday at 4:20 p.m. when Hora battles in the preliminaries for the 100 meter dash.
