A $2.2 million state historic preservation tax credit will be used to renovate a historic building on West Broadway Avenue in Fairfield. In about a year from now, CBC Financial plans to start renovating the Louden Machinery Building which was constructed in the 1890s. According to project manager David Humphreys, the grant will allow them to preserve the appearance and historic feel of the building, while updating it for use as affordable senior housing. The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs recently awarded more than $38 million in tax credits for this and 19 other projects in the state.
