A Kalona man’s vehicular homicide trial is being delayed for a second time. Originally scheduled for March 17th, then pushed back to June 9th, Jeffrey Bulechek’s jury trial is now set for August 18th. The defense filed a motion to continue, or postpone, the trial prior to the pretrial hearing that was  planned for Friday.

Late last year, the Iowa State Patrol charged the Kalona resident with vehicular homicide while operating under the influence and serious injury by vehicle. The charges stem from an accident that occurred on December 1st of 2013 when a sedan traveling northbound on Highway 1 collided with Bulechek’s pickup going eastbound on 520th Street. According to the State Patrol, Bulechek failed to yield at the intersection.

One of the individuals riding in the car, 15-year-old Brittany Hochstetler of Grabill, Indiana, died from injuries sustained during the accident. The Wellman teenager that was driving the sedan and her other passenger were hospitalized.
