Several athletes from the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk track team will be traveling to Des Monies this week.

The Mid-Prairie boys’ are taking five events into state. Levi Duwa qualified for state in the shot put after place in first in the state qualifying meet after throwing 53 feet and 5 inches. Duwa will also participate in the discus in Des Moines tenth best thrower in Class 2A going to Des Monies with a throw of 151 feet and 8 inches.

Senior Jared Draper will reprsent the Golden Hawks in the 1600 meter run recording the tenth best time in Class 2A at 10:06.05. Sophomore Isaiahn Powell will be heading to Des Moines on the long jump at 20 feet and 6 inches for the 13th best jump in Class 2A. Senior Colin Weber sneaked to state in the 400 meter dash clocking the 23rd best time in Class 2A with a time of 52.10 seconds.

The Mid-Prairie girls will be taking seven events to Des Monies with all of the events automatically qualifying last Thursday in Tipton. Anna Hostetler took the district championship in the 1500 meter run at 4:56.95 and finished second in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:41.72. Lexi Duwa achieved second in the 200 meter dash recorded a time of 27.5 to earn a trip to Des Monies. In the 800 meter dash, Abby Tornow took silver to earn a trip to state with a time of 2:34.27.

Several relay teams received automatic bids to Des Monies. The 4×100 relay team claimed first with a time of 51.08 with Duwa, Emily Cayton, Ali Butters and Alex Rath. The 4×200 relay team took second with a time of 1:48.76 athletes include, Duwa, Cayton, Butters and Rath. The 4×800 team also took second place to earn a trip to Des Monies, participants include, Tornow, Hannah Van Roekel, Greta Schmidt and Maddi Zahradnek.
