Baseball season is upon us as the Mid-Prairie boys’ baseball team is set for a doubleheader tonight taking on the West Branch Bears.

The Golden Hawks went 9-23 last year and lost in the first round of the postseason to Iowa City Regina. Mid-Prairie graduated five athletes from last year’s team including their top two pitchers that had a combined 15 of 23 starts for the Golden Hawks.

A bright spot for the Golden Hawks’ baseball team is freshman Carson Gingerich. Gingerich was moved up to varsity last year in 8th grade tying for the best average in hits with a .360 and at bats with 89.

The Bears are coming off of a 12-17 season and lost in the second round at districts to Mt. Vernon. West Branch lost just two seniors and have top pitcher Brad Arp back for his senior year. Last year he struck out 54 batters in his eight starts.

The game starts at 5:30 p.m. today and you can catch both games live here on KCII starting with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame Show at 5 p.m. on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and on KCIIradio.com.
