Mid-Prairie School District is purchasing an apartment building. The school board recently agreed to purchase the Kalona building, located south of the middle school, for $170,000.

A closing date of November 1st has been set, allowing current tenants time to relocate. The building will be demolished shortly after the acquisition, but due to the district already having several projects in the works, nothing will be done with the space for the foreseeable future. Superintendent Mark Schneider says the land may be used for a bus barn or to extend the middle school’s parking lot.

He adds he was approached by the owners of the property who wanted to give the district a chance to purchase it before they went with a buyer who had already made an offer.
