On the first day of the state track meet in Des Moines the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks will have seven events compete today.

First up will be sophomore Isaiahn Powell in flight one of the long jump, competing at 9 a.m. Powell’s district qualifing jump of 20 feet and 6 inches is 13th best in Class 2A.

Next, at 9:40 a.m., will be freshman Anna Hostetler in the 3000 meter run there isn’t a preliminary round for the event. Her time in the regionals at 10:41:72 is the second best time and is just behind Tipton sophomore Kenzie Mente by less then a second.

Shortly after at 10:10 a.m., is the the 3200 meter run where senior Jared Draper will be participating. His run at the district meet last week of 10:06:05 was the 10th best time in Class 2A.

At 11:10 a.m., the Mid-Prairie girls’ 4x 800 relay team of sophomore Abby Tornow, junior Hannah VanRoekel, sophomore Greta Schmidt and junior Maddi Zahradnek will be competing in the preliminaries. Their time of 10:40:84 was the 23rd best time in Class 2A.

Sophomore Levi Duwa will be competing in one of two events he qualified for at 11:30 a.m. today when he competes in flight two of the shot put. Duwa’s throw of 53 feet and 5 inches at the state qualifying meet was the third best in Class 2A.

At 12:40 p.m. senior Lexi Duwa will compete in the preliminary 200 meter dash in heat two. Duwa’s time in regionals at 27.5 seconds was the 20th best time in Class 2A. If she places in the top eight she will compete in the finals on Saturday.

The last event of the day for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks is senior Colin Weber competing preliminaries for in the 400 meter dash in heat one. Weber’s time in the district qualifying meet of 52.1 seconds was 23rd best in Class 2A.
