The Mid-Prairie boys’ and girls’ track teams have one more meet to tune up their skills before districts. The squads travel to Monticello today to compete against the 12 members of the River Valley Conference.

Girls’ track coach Chris Tyler says this meet will be a good test for his athletes, “A lot of events we’ll be seeing at the state meet will come out of the River Valley Conference.” Tyler said, “So looking forward to this meet, it will definitely push us.”

Prior to tonight’s meet senior Lexi Duwa was third in the River Valley Conference in the 100 meter dash, recording a time of 13.17 seconds. Freshman Anna Hostetler is second in the conference in the 3000 meter run clocking a time of 10:51.82. The 4×100 relay team is also second in the conference with a time of 51.56 seconds set by Duwa, Emily Cayton, Ali Butters and Alex Rath.

The Mid-Prairie boys have the top shot put and discus thrower in the conference in sophomore Levi Duwa. His top throw of 53 feet and 0.75 inches is just three-quarters of an inch further than Jared Brinkman from Iowa City Regina. Duwa’s top discuss throw was recorded at 157 feet and seven inches.

The meet will begin at 4:30 p.m. today in Monticello.
