Mondays have not been kind to the Washington Demon girls’ soccer team (2-7 overall) this spring. In their third Monday match of the season, Washington welcomed the Oskaloosa Indians (6-3 overall) to town for a non-conference clash. Oskaloosa scored 17 second into the game, and never relinquished the lead in a 4-0 win at Washington High School.

The Indians won the game without their leading scorer, sophomore Ashley Brockman, recording a goal in the match. Senior Keely Blanchard started the Indians scoring 17 seconds in the match, receiving a pass on the right side of the box and powering the ball in the corner of the net for an early 1-0 lead. The scoreboard read 3-0 at halftime. Junior Jackie Reif led the Indian offense, scoring a goal in each half for the Indians.

Washington coach Kyle Collins says he isn’t a fan on playing games on Mondays, “The weekend is long for everyone and the first thing you have to show up for a game on Monday.” Collins said, “We didn’t work together and when we did it was rough.”

Washington has been outscored 18-1 in Monday games this season. Senior goal keeper Stephanie Evans recorded 14 saves for the Demons in the setback. She has recorded over 130 saves so far this season.
Up next for the Demon girls’ soccer team is a Thursday trip to Keokuk for a Southeast Conference showdown with the Chiefs (8-0 overall). Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. from Keokuk High School.
