One person was taken by Aircare to the University of Iowa Hospitals from an accident in the northbound lanes of Highway 218 in Washington County yesterday. At approximately 8:46 a.m. just south of Old White Way, near 282nd Street, a Ford 150 pickup truck struck the rear of a semi truck that was slowed to turn left into a private drive.

The driver of the pickup, 65-year-old Donald Dodson, of Fort Madison, was taken by helicopter and 66-year-old Dennis Hodges of Keokuk was taken by ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals. Both Dodson and Hodges were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. The semi was driven by 43-year-old Philip Gerleman of Lockridge.

Iowa State Patrol responded to the scene and traffic was slowed to one lane and backed up nearly to Crawfordsville for some time. Crawfordsville Fire, Crawfordsville QRS, Washington Rescue and Washington County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
