Several KCII area athletes put together medal performances during day two of the Iowa Girls and Boys State Track and Field meet in Des Moines.

Two KCII area boys’ 4×200 meter relay teams found themselves among the top eight in yesterday’s final race. The Lone Tree Lions’ squad of Jared Hudson, Nick Viner, Ty Schillerstrom, and Travis Gillham crossed the finish line in 1:33.15, the fifth best finish in the state. The Winfield-Mount Union group of Kyler Smith, Levi Giese, Garret Baker, and Keaton Pallister scored team points after a finish of 1:33.4, the eighth best finish in the field.

The Pekin Panthers had several medal performances, including two state championship efforts. The Panthers boys’ 4×200 meter relay team has captured the Class 1A state championship with a time of 1:13.04. The crew includes Tyler Copeland, Keaton Winn, Christian Wittrock, and Chase Copeland. Junior Kaysha Dodson claimed the Class 1A girls high jump championship, clearing 5 feet 6 inches in the final.

Two Panther boys’ athletes placed in the top five of the Class 1A high jump competition. Senior Colton Lanman and sophomore Zach Conger each cleared 6 feet 5 inches, placing them third and fourth in the state respectively.

Finally, the Panther girls’ distance medley team placed among the top three best squads in Class 1A. The squad of Sloan Reighard, Shea Dahlstrom, Kaylee Linder, and Gwynne Wright clocked a time of 4:18.41, the third best time in the field.
