The first round of the NCAA Division II Midwest Super Regional Golf Tournament tees off tomorrow morning at the Cog Hill Golf Course in Lemont, Illinois, and a former Washington Demon alum is taking part in the event. Lewis University junior Alex Thode and the Flyers Men’s Golf team are vying for a spot in the NCAA DII National Championship May 18-20 in Conover, N.C.. The Flyers are among the host schools for the tournament, which consists of 54 holes played over three days. The five teams with the lowest score and five individuals with the lowest scores not on those teams will advance to the NCAA DII National Championship.

Thode says the competition at the Midwest Super Regional will be some of the best he’s faced, “I have played in a lot of junior tournaments and a lot of national ranked events and this is going to be the cream of the crop.” Thode said, “Its 20 teams from the Midwest United States north to south. It’s going to be a really good test for us but we are geared up and ready to go.”

Thode has been in top form recently for the Flyers. He became the 7th golfer in Flyers history to win the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Individual Golf Championship on April 21, winning the tournament by nine strokes. He said it was an awesome experience, “To be up there with the other guys from Lewis (University) who have won the conference tournament, and the other conference winners was really special.” Thode said.
