A 48-year-old Ainsworth man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder following a shooting incident in Williamsburg. Roy Lee Boughner, of Ainsworth, is being held in the Iowa County Jail with a $25,000 bond following his initial appearance in court. His case has been assigned to the State Public Defender’s Office.

According to the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office, at 11:50 a.m. Saturday, Boughner attempted to cause the death of Yule Park of Iowa City by shooting him with a 9 millimeter semi-automatic handgun at a range of 10 to 15 feet. Boughner missed Park; he then tried to shoot again, but the weapon jammed, which gave Park time to escape uninjured. The shooting occurred at the rear of the Ramada Inn Hotel in rural Williamsburg, near I-80. Officers took Boughner into custody within minutes of the incident.

According to sources, Boughner was a former employee at the hotel and went to pick up his last paycheck.
