Kalona’s Avenue of Flags is coming down today. The display of over 100 flags at Sharon Hill Cemetery was set up for the Memorial Day holiday. According to organizer Jan Peterseim, they started with a much smaller number of flags when the tradition began 30 years ago.
Typically, Mid-Prairie Middle School students and members of Future Farmers of America assist with taking the flags down, but due to the middle school students being unable to help this year, some assistance is needed.
Those interested in volunteering their time are asked to be at the cemetery at 11:30 this morning. Peterseim says the process usually takes an hour.
