In their season opening double header last night, the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team (0-2) fell to West Branch. As heard on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and on KCIIradio.com, the Golden Hawks were swept by the Bears, losing 4-2, and 3-0.

In the first game, sophomore Derek Rich pitched five full innings for the Golden Hawks. Rich gave up two runs in the bottom of the first to make the score 2-0 after the first inning. Mid-Prairie was able to get one player home in the second, after sophomore Carson Duwa hit the ball and was able to get junior Adam Schrock ran home to make the score 2-1.

In the fourth inning Mid-Prairie would even the score when Schrock hit a double towards field and senior Jackson Yoder came home to make the score 2-2 at the end of the fourth.

In the sixth inning Mid-Prairie switched to Yoder for pitching and he walked two Bears on base. The Golden Hawks then went to Schrock for pitching, but struggled as the Bears would score two runs in the sixth to make it 4-2. At the top of the seventh Mid-Prairie had one more chance to rally with a runner at first base with two outs. Sophomore Braeden Neilson hit the ball deep to right field, but West Branch got the final out when freshman Terrhyn Jacoby did not make it to third base before being tagged out.

In the second game, the Golden Hawks could not muster much offense, scoring no runs. The Bears scored in the bottom of the first to make the score 1-0. In the bottom of the third, West Branch was able to send two more runners home after a hit from sophomore Cole Tisinger was sent deep between left and center field to make it 3-0. No else scored in the last four innings of play.

Mid-Prairie is 0-2 and will look for their first win of the season as they travel to Highland on Friday.
