It was a great year for Columbus’s junior golfer Kortney Orr as she was able to make it to the state tournament and finished 21st overall in Class 2A with scores of 95 and 96.

Head Columbus golf coach Tony Simmons says Orr made history going to Ames for Columbus, “First Columbus girls’ golfer to make a state tournament, not with a team theey’re obviously. It was a big moment for her and her family, she represented herself and the school very well.”

With Orr and four other juniors possibly coming back next year and a fourth place finish in regionals this year, Simmons says this team is not far off possibly making the school’s first team state appearance next year, “It’s a fine line, a little bit of improved play, a little bit of off season dedication, practicing. A lot goes into it, but we’re not that far away.”

Columbus was just 12 strokes away from advancing to the regional finals this year.
