The postseason run for the Washington Demons girls’ soccer team (3-12 overall) begins in Iowa City this evening against a stout competitor. The Demons open up Class 1A Region 8 soccer tournament against the No. 2 Iowa City Regina Regals (12-3 overall).

Washington enters the regional tournament on a three game losing streak, being outscored 16-0 over the span. The Demons ended the season in Centerville on Friday, losing a 1-0 non-conference contest to the Big Redettes. Washington has been shutout in 10 of their 12 losses this season.

A trio of seniors lead the way for the Demon soccer team. Kayla Schindler leads the team in goals scored with five. Lauren Swan leads Washington in assists with three, and Stephanie Evans leads the team with nearly 200 saves this spring.

Despite a 12-win season, the Regals enter the postseason on a sour note. Regina lost 1-0 to Davenport Assumption on Friday in Iowa City. The Regals are led in scoring by junior Jenny Wicks, who has scored 21 goals so far this spring. Senior Hannah Stein has made 90 saves in goal this season.

Today’s Class 1A Region 8 tournament match kicks off at 5 p.m. at Iowa City Regina High School.
