Two KCII local baseball team battle tonight in Wellman to help the ongoing fight against a deadly disease. The Washington Demons (3-7 overall) make the short trip to the northwestern portion of county for a single varsity clash against the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks (5-6 overall) in the annual Strike Out Cancer game. Cancer patients and survivors are welcomed to attend tonight’s game, and proceeds from the concession stand will be donated to Washington County’s Relay for Life program.

Washington enters non-conference play tonight on a five game losing streak, dropping a pair of contests to the Mount Pleasant Panthers, 6-4 and 7-2 at Dick Sojka Memorial Field Friday evening. After scoring 34 runs during a three game winning streak, the Demons have scored 15 runs during their current five game skid.

Mid-Prairie returns to the field after a weather related layoff. The Golden Hawks are on a current three game winning streak after a 21-6 victory over the Sigourney Savages last Tuesday in Wellman. Mid-Prairie has seen their last four games get postponed due to weather, including Monday’s River Valley Conference clash against the Bellevue Comets.

Washington shut out the Golden Hawks during last year’s clash, 13-0. Demon sophomore Zach Londberg threw a no-hitter, allowing two walks and striking out three Golden Hawks in the victory.
