Heavy rains and occasional thunderstorms played a role in the second annual meeting between the Washington Demon and Mount Pleasant Panther alumni football teams. After winning the inaugural game 21-20 last year in Washington, the Mount Pleasant Panthers resumed bragging rights with a 17-0 victory at Evans Field inside the Mapleleaf Athletic Complex in Mount Pleasant. The game was called off with 7:57 remaining in the fourth quarter due to inclement weather.

Miscues loomed large for Washington offensively, turning the football over three times and having a punt blocked. Tanner Knupp, a 2014 graduate, led the Demons with 93 yards rushing on 27 carries. Kelly Williams, a 2001 Demon alum, completed three of nine passes for 105 yards, including a 57-yard pass to Eric Manz, a 1999 graduate.

The game acted as a fundraiser for both communities, with Washington’s portion going to the Rock ‘n’ Ride Charity bike race next month.
