Seven people have died as a result of lightning strikes in the United States Since April 9th, including one man in Iowa. On May 4th William Clevenger, 35, was rounding up cattle on horseback when he was struck by lightning near Moscow, IA. This week is lightning safety week.

Kelsey Angle with the National Weather Service explains when you hear thunder go inside, as that means lightning is close enough to strike. Stay in safe shelter until 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder. Also, Angle explains lightning can strike the same place twice. Lightning strikes the United States about 25 million times each year.
