Offense was hard to come by Monday evening for the Washington Demon softball team (4-23 overall). The Demons welcomed the No. 11 Keokuk Chiefs (18-6 overall) to town to complete their conference quartet. The Chiefs walked away with a season sweep of Washington, winning 6-1 in game one and 13-0 in game two.

Washington junior Mackenzie Knutson scored the lone run of the evening for the Demons, reaching base in the fifth inning of game one on a walk. Sophomore Jessie Buchholz drove her in with a single two batters later. It was the sixth and seventh conference games in which the Demons scored one run or less this season.

Keokuk outscored Washington 38-4 over the four league games. The pair of setbacks drops the Demons’ overall record to 4-23, and keep them winless in 10 Southeast Conference contests this season. Washington returns to the field tonight in Fairfield, completing their season series against the Trojans. Live play-by-play coverage at Fairfield Middle School begins with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame Show at 5 p.m. on AM/FM KCII and KCIIRadio.com.
