A battle atop the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North (SEISC) baseball standings takes place tonight in Mediapolis. The Lone Tree Lions (11-5 overall) are set to make a trip to Des Moines County to battle the Mediapolis Bulldogs (10-7 overall).

Lone Tree enters tonight’s game in second place in the SEISC North, winning eight of their last nine games. A factor in the Lions’ recent success has been an increase in the offensive output. Lone Tree has averaged nearly nine runs scored over the last nine games, compared to five runs scored on average over the first seven games. Senior Erik Murray leads the conference in total innings pitched with 34 this season, collecting a league best 64 strike outs so far this season.

Mediapolis enters the game tonight in third place in the SEISC North. The Bulldogs suffered a setback the last time they were on the field, a 13-6 loss to the West Burlington Falcons on Friday evening.

These two teams met previously this season. The Bulldogs bested the Lions 2-0 in Lone Tree on June 4.

First pitch of tonight’s varsity baseball game is set for 7 p.m. at Mediapolis High School.
