The first round of the postseason for girls’ soccer is tonight and the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk soccer team (4-8) is hosting the regional match up against Columbus Community (3-12).

These two teams met earlier in the season, where Mid-Prairie took the victory, 1-0. Senior Ashley Miller scored the lone goal in the win.

The Golden Hawks have had a rough second half of the season, losing seven straight games. In the seven-loss stretch they have given up 51 goals while scoring six.

Mid-Prairie is led in scoring by Miller with 11 total goals. Senior Cassidy Bontrager has 213 saves, third most in class 1A, she has a 79 save percentage.

Columbus has spread the scoring around with Melissa Meldonado, Bailey Stroud, Julissa Ramirez, Tina Martinez, Alexia Santos and Shania Boyd all scoring at least two goals this season.

The first round regional match up begins at 5 p.m. today at the Mid-Prairie Soccer Complex in Wellman. Listen to KCII’s sports page tomorrow for results.
