An excellent pitching performance led the Mid-Prairie (20-10 overall) softball team to a win last night over the Durant Wildcats (22-8 overall) before the second game was washed out by a strong thunderstorm that rolled through before the start of the second game.

Golden Hawk pitcher Emma Troyer twirled a complete game shutout in the opener, allowing just six hits. Mid-Prairie scored early, plating two runs in the top of the first inning and never gave up the lead. An insurance run in the sixth made the final score of 3-0.

Mid-Prairie scored their first runs on a single by Lexi Duwa, followed by a triple from the bat of Amber Kral that scored Duwa. Troyer helped her own cause with a sacrifice bunt that brought home the second run.

The Golden Hawks were lead by Kral, who finished the night with two hits in three trips to the plate. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was just about to get underway when a thunderstorm moved in causing a 30 minute lightning delay, then the skies let loose with heavy rain and some hail, which washed out the second game. Last night’s second game has been rescheduled for Monday, July 6.

The Golden Hawks upped their record to 20-10, while the loss ended a seven-game winning streak for Durant, as they fell to 22-8 on the season.
