The City of Riverside now has a storm water maintenance fee. The adoption of the ordinance had its first reading Monday and the city council waived the second and third. According to the ordinance, each customer will be charged $3 each billing cycle to finance the operation and maintenance of the storm water management facilities.

The council also held the first reading and waived the rest for the $3 increase to the water rates. Beginning the first of July, the new monthly fee will be $12 per month, and each 1,000 gallons of water used will cost the homeowner $6.

The first reading of the amendment to the sewer service charges was also held. The rates are increasing by $3 as well, bringing the monthly fee to $12 and the cost per 1,000 gallons of water used to $6. In addition, it changes the way those who live outside the city are charged for the service. Under the amendment, they would pay $40 per month and pay $9 per 1,000 gallons of water. The council chose not to waive the second and final reading.
