The conference season for the Washington Demon baseball team (1-2 overall) begins this evening in Fort Madison. The Demons open up the Southeast Conference season in a doubleheader showdown with the Bloodhounds.

Washington recorded their first win of the season on Friday against Central Lee, a 9-1 triumph over the Hawks at Dick Sojka Memorial Field. Sophomore Michael Gier pitched six innings, allowing three hits, an unearned run, a walk, and four strikeouts in the victory. The Demons’ bats came alive in the later innings, scoring all nine runs after the third inning.

Tonight marks the opening of the baseball season for Fort Madison. The Bloodhounds were suppose to begin their season on Wednesday in Burlington, but the game was postponed by the schools.

Washington swept the season series between the schools last season, outscoring Fort Madison 27-13 in four games.

First pitch of today’s Southeast Conference doubleheader is set for 5:30 p.m. at Fort Madison High School.
