An offensive explosion helped the Washington Demon baseball (3-2 overall; 2-0 Southeast) earn their first winning streak of the season. Washington traveled to Fort Madison for a Southeast Conference Clash versus the Bloodhounds (0-2 overall; 0-2 Southeast). Washington broke out the bats, scoring 25 runs on 25 hits in the pair of games, winning 10-3 and 15-0 in five innings.

The Demons had scored three runs through the first four innings of game 1 before scoring seven runs over the final three frames. Washington sophomore Zach Londberg slapped four hits, including a RBI double in the seventh inning, to lead Washington’s offense in game one.

Washington jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning of game 2, and had a six run lead entering the top of the fifth inning. Thirteen batters came to the plate in the fifth frame, scoring nine runs on six hits and forcing three walks to push the final score to 15-0 in five innings. Senior Blake Weidman went three for four at the dish, recording two doubles, scored two runs, and drove in three batters in the victory.

Sophomore Michael Gier reached base in all eight plate appearances Monday night, scoring six runs and forcing three walks in the doubleheader sweep of the Bloodhounds.

The wins improve Washington’s overall record to 3-2, winning their last three games in a row. The Demons return to the diamond on Thursday evening, battling the Fairfield Trojans in a Southeast Conference doubleheader at Dick Sojka Memorial Field in Washington.
