On a 4-2 vote the Washington City Council passed the third and final reading amending an ordinance regarding alcohol in Central Park. The amendment allows the city council to permit alcohol in Central Park for special events held by organizations. The example of a wine tasting event was discussed. Such events will have to be approved with at least four council members voting in support.

Prior to the amendment organizations were able to have alcohol on the streets around the park, but not in the park itself.
