Heading into the final day of the high school golf season, the Washington Demon girls squad are 18-holes away from their third state title in program history. The Demons are competing in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s Class 4A State Golf Tournament at the American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown.

Washington finished the first round in 351 strokes, seven shots better than Dubuque Wahlert for the overall lead, and have three players in the top 15 in the individual competition. Freshman Sarah Nacos is tied a top the individual standings with Fairfield junior Lindsey Repp, who both carded a 7 over 78 through the first round of the tournament. Junior Deanna Peffier is eight shots back of the leaders after shooting a 15 over 86 on Monday. Her performance was tied for the 4th best in the field. Senior Sarah Waitie enters her final day of high school golf competition tied for 15th place after recording a 20 over 91.

The final day of the IGHSAU Class 4A State Golf Tournament tees off at 9 a.m. at the American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown. Stay tuned to KCII for updates from the state golf tournament.
