Updates are coming to the stop lights in Washington. The traffic signals in the City of Washington will soon be outfitted with LED bulbs, where it has not yet been done. The total order is for 33 red bulbs, 42 yellow bulbs, 26 green bulbs and 24 bulbs for walk/don’t walk signs.

The vendor contract went to Brown Traffic Products, Inc. For $8,667 and Marie Electric received the electrician bid. The total project cost is $11,067. City Administrator Brent Hinson explained to council that they will be receiving rebates from Alliant Energy for the upgrade for $2700.

He added the rebates depend on the type of bulb, with more money for green bulbs than the red ones. The city had budgeted $15,000 for the project, but will pay about $8400 out of pocket after the rebates are received.
