The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is advising area residents of a scam reported in Washington County involving asphalt. According to the sheriff’s office, a group of subjects approach a resident and say they have left over asphalt from a job in the area, the group then says they can place the left over material on their drive way and charge a large fee afterwards. The scam occurred Wednesday in Riverside and the name used by the group was Cross Roads Chip Seal.
The sheriff’s office is warning residents and asks if anyone is contacted or sees suspicious subjects to contact authorities at 319-653-2107. Residents are also advised they can check information and complaints about companies online through the Iowa Better Business Bureau.
