A lunar event tonight will not appear significant, but will be unique, as it won’t happen again until 2018. While there are different definitions, tonight’s moon will be considered a blue moon because it’s the second full moon of the month.

According to Steven Spangler, Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Iowa, blue moon is simply a term that’s used for the second full moon in a month, not an indicator of what color the moon will be.

Even though the moon won’t be blue, Spangler still encourages people to check it out and recommends looking due south where you may be able to see Saturn.
