The postseason tournament begins tonight for the Columbus Wildcat softball team (10-8 overall). The Wildcats hit the road to Iowa City, squaring off in the Class 2A Region 6 against the Regina Regals (20-14 overall).

An up and down regular season for the Wildcats ended with a 16-6 loss on Thursday versus the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons (16-14) in Columbus Junction. Senior Kelsey Pretz has made an impact for the Wildcats during her final athletic season for the Wildcats. Pretz has pitched 94 of the 99 innings this season for the Wildcats, posting a 10-6 record, and a 3.17 earned run average. She also leads the team in at bats (52), total hits (20), doubles (3), and is one of five Wildcats to record a triple this season.

Iowa City Regina has been playing better as of late. The Regals, who were 9-10 on June 24, have won 11 of their last 15 games to end the regular season. Senior Kennedy Brown is tied for the River Valley Conference lead in home runs with 11. She also leads the Regals with 23 stolen bases in 23 attempts during the regular season.

First pitch of tonight’s Class 2A Region 6 battle between the Wildcats and Regals is set for 7 p.m. at Iowa City Regina High School.
