After years of fundraising and research, work has begun on the Keota Veterans Memorial. Dave Hobscheidt is one of the individuals who has led the effort to build the memorial. He says the footings were poured this week for the black granite monument at 605 West Broadway Avenue.
He shares they have a list of over 2,000 veterans whose names will be engraved on the memorial and continue to look for more. In order to qualify, the individual needs to have served in any branch of the military, including the reserves and National Guard, during war or peacetime and need to have either been a member of the Keota VFW, lived in the Keota, Harper or Clear Creek area, was buried in a cemetery in one of those towns or attended school in Keota or Harper.
Those with a name to add are encouraged to contact Hobscheidt by email at dnhob@hotmail.com or by calling 653-8733 before July 15th, as it will be costly to add names after the initial veterans’ names are engraved.
