Last week Southeast Iowa had about half a day suitable for field work, according to the United States Department of Agriculture. Severe weather swept across Iowa last week with high winds, hail and inches of rain.

According to the weekly report, pasture conditions across Iowa were rated at 81 percent good to excellent, but muddy feedlots and increased insect pressure elevated livestock stress levels.

At this point in the season, 20 percent of the corn crop is excellent, 63 percent is good and 15 percent is fair. Sixteen percent of soybeans are rated excellent, 62 percent are good and 19 percent are fair.

In Southeast Iowa, 55 percent of fields have surplus topsoil moisture and 98 are adequate or have surplus subsoil moisture.
