Despite the season long struggles, the Washington Demon softball team (7-26 overall) will bring some positive momentum with them into the postseason later this week. The Demons wrapped up their regular season scheduled Tuesday evening at Washington’s softball complex facing the Central Lee Hawks (record) in a non-conference battle. The Demons scored five runs in the fifth inning, walking away with a 5-2 victory over the Hawks.

Central Lee jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning, and held the score intact until the bottom of the fifth. Washington scored all five runs with nobody recording an out, recording four hits in the inning. The Demons and Hawks went scoreless in the final two innings, giving Washington a 5-2 victory.

Freshman Megan Mitchell and Morgan Brinning drove in two runs during the fifth inning and each had a double at the plate. The Demons have won three straight games to end the regular season, their first winning streak of of 2015.

Washington enters postseason play tomorrow evening, traveling to Fairfield for a Class 4A Region 5 opener versus the No. 14 Trojans (26-10 record).
