A first inning offensive burst by Osklaoosa dug the Washington Demon baseball team (5-16 overall) into an early hole Tuesday evening. As heard on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the Demons honored senior Blake Weidman in our final baseball broadcast of the regular season, hosting the Oskaloosa Indians (17-6 overall). A seven run first inning paced the Indians, cruising to a 14-3 victory in six innings.

Washington started the game with Weidman on the mound, but he only lasted three batters walking the bases loaded to begin the game. The Indians sent 11 batters to the plate to begin the game, scoring seven runs on four hits to jump out to a comfortable lead. The Indians grew the lead to 8-0 after three innings and had a 10 run advantage heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Demons strung together their best offensive inning in nearly three weeks in the bottom of the fourth. Three singles helped score Ryan Loy, Weidman, and Tanner Renoux in the frame, cutting the deficit to 10-3 after four innings. Oskaloosa responded with a pair of runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to push their lead out to 14-3. The final four Demon batters went down on strikes, for a 14-3 final score.

Sophomore Dakota Kron was the only Demon with a multi-hit game, recording two singles in the setback.

The loss drops Washington’s overall record to 5-16, losing their last eight games. The Demons have scored three of less runs in their last nine contests as they return to the diamond tonight, facing the Keokuk Chiefs in a Southeast Conference doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 5:30 p.m. at Joyce Park in Keokuk.
