City of Washington staff, mayor Sandra Johnson and council members took part in a ground breaking Wednesday afternoon for a new water tower. The new water tower will be located off of West 5th Street, near where the new YMCA will be built. Johnson explained the new infrastructure will replace that which was built in the 1920’s and is the second part of the city’s facility plan upgrades concerning waterworks. And adds approximately 250,000 more gallons of water storage.
Last year the city’s reservoir was replaced. The water tower construction is anticipated to be complete late next summer. In addition, it was noted that over 1,000 survey responses were received regarding the design to be painted on the water tower.
The ground breaking event was held by the Washington Chamber of Commerce.
