A heat advisory is in effect for Washington County and much of Southeast Iowa today from noon to 7 p.m. According to the National Weather Service heat index values up to 104 degrees are forecast due to temperatures in the upper 80s and dewpoints in the mid-70s. People are reminded to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room and out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors, especially the elderly. Also, take extra care of outdoor pets during these high temperatures.
