Two Southeast Iowa Super Conference rivals will battle for a spot in the district championship game tonight. The Highland Huskies (17-8 overall) and Lone Tree Lions (16-9 overall) are scheduled to play their Class 1A District 9 semifinal this evening at Lone Tree High School.

The Huskies advanced to the district semifinal after an 8-7 victory over the Iowa Mennonite School Tuesday evening. Senior Ben Bean went two for four at the plate, collecting a double, drove in two runs, and hit the game winning solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Highland has won six of their last seven games.

The Lions advanced to the district semifinal after a 10-3 triumph over the Sigourney Savages (11-17 overall). Jovonte Squires, Jared Hudson, and Ross Swinton each scored a pair of runs in the victory for the Lions. Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning, Lone Tree scored eight unanswered runs for the win.

The two teams split the regular season series. Lone Tree won game one, 1-0, June 2 in Riverside and Highland won game two, 6-1, in Lone Tree.
