The head coach of the Highland Huskies softball team has been recognized as one of the best in the conference. Carrie Weiland was recently named the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Co-Coach of the Year. She shares the honor with Shannon Salazar of the Wapello Arrows.

Weiland was very pleased by the recognition, “I think Shannon (Salazar) and I were deserving of it and it’s an honor to have.” Weiland said, “It’s not like I don’t work for it, and will continue to work hard at being the best I can be and I work hard for my kids.”

Highland ended the season with a 23-6 overall record, and captured their fourth straight Southeast Iowa Super Conference title with a 15-2 league record. Ten Highland softball players were recognized as All-Conference players, including senior Katie Springer, senior Courtnee Hahn, senior Morgan Craig, junior Cheyann Adamson, and sophomore Kelsey Hora receiving first team honors.
